How Qualifications Work

Qualification rounds are listed with a cut-off time in seconds. Competitors who have recorded an official WCA average (or single in the case of BLD events) under the listed cut-off time no earlier than 2006 are pre-qualified and do not compete in the qualification round.

From the qualifying rounds, at least the top 5 competitors will advance to the main event. Additional competitors may advance as well depending on availability. Qualification round rankings and advancement are based solely on times compared to other competitors in the qualification round. Getting a single solve better than the cut-off time is not a guarantee that you will advance to the first round.

If time permits, the organizational team may allow those who do not advance from the qualification rounds to complete an average of 5 solves.

In "combined final" events, a competitor must get a time within the listed time limit on the first solve in order to complete the average.
